| RESULTS July 11th 2010 – Speed Event.
Cold weather and blue skies made for a good day of racing for the Williams Paul and Shane. Racing “Ugly Betty” was Shane and Paul behind the wheel of the Honda Accord. Shane had some pretty good competition in his Single Seater class with 2 other drivers set to post very close times.
Round 1 Race 1 found Paul and Shane fighting for traction on the cold track with. Paul with a passenger in tow managed to fight a good race after an early spin on the warmup lap and the car still not running right. Shane was on form from the first drop of the flag beating the next driver by over 3 seconds. Race 2 saw Shane still fighting for traction but had no effect on his time increasing his lead by another 5 seconds.
As the day went on Shane kept increasing his lead by at least 2 seconds each race and Paul having some good battles with a Mazda.
At the end of the final races Shane managed to win by over 20 seconds which was an amazing effort based on the competion he had. Paul having some good battles throughout the day ended up 4th in his group.
All in all with the speed of Ugly Betty and the antics of Paul in the Honda it was an awesome day of racing.

9th 10th January 2010 - Wigram meeting Ruapuna
This was the big meeting for the team as we were entered in “ Fastest Car In The Land” race at Ruapuna. The top OSCA cars were there and also the Tranzam Jag of Derin Greenslade. As it turned out the Greenslade Jag, Hatton Horse float Camaro and my Camaro driven by Shane were in a league of their own and none of the other OSCA cars had a chance of being on the pace that the top three cars were on.
It was a 10 lap race with all 3 cars leading at some stage of the race. Chris Hatton was in front at the beginning after having a fantastic start, after 3 laps Chris went a bit wide on the sweeper and both Shane and the Greenslade Jag slipped past on the inside. The Jag then having more HP passed Shane down the straight. Shane battled with the Jag for a couple of laps and then the Jag went slightly off line and Shane slipped up the inside at the sweeper. Both the cars made contact and Shane’s spoiler on the front was dragging on the ground. He radioed to me re this information as he passed me while I was watching from the pit wall. I radioed back to him and told him to keep going as he was in front and the spoiler was not about to fall off.
Shane held off the Jag for the rest of the race and crossed the line in front. This should have been the end but the officials then placed Shane in second place as his transponder was behind the Jags one, so the Jags transponder crossed the line first.
Time for a protest as spectators and time keepers saw Shane’s car cross the line first and most persons with ½ a brain would know that the car that crosses the line first wins.
The end result after the protest being held was that the officials were actually wrong in their decision and Shane was placed in the right position. Shane now holds “The Fastest Car Of The Land Title”
This was a very, very exciting race.
Shane Williams in the Tranzam.
Pretty good, got 1st in race 1, after stalling off the line, I dropped back to about 10th and had a huge gap to make up on Chris in his TraNZam, but got to the front quite easy, lapped about 12 cars. Race 2 was a handicap race, so I started dead last and from pitlane just over 2 mins behind the car that went first, I managed to get up to 7th, (but most importantly, I beat Chris), Race 3 was the same handicap, but this time I managed to get to second spot, again ahead of Chris. A great days racing, quite a bit of action with over 100 cars turning up to race. The tranzam went like a dream with no problems. Next race 9 and 10 January.
Ron Silvester Memorial Trophy - 31st October 2009
The race for the Ron Silvester Memorial trophy was really a forgone conclusion with John Rae coming South with his very Quick Corvette Transam (Fitted with the best engine, gearbox and brakes you can buy) so I was treating the race hoping for Shane to come home in second place driving my Morris Lubricants Camaro. The surprise was that Shane set the fastest lap time during the race (and the best time of all race cars during the meeting) and easily coming home in the second spot. Chris Hatton coming 3rd in the Hatton Horse Float Camaro. Shane led for a couple of laps and was passed down the straight but caught up under braking and in the tight corner sections of Ruapuna. A very close second.
Most surprising as he was giving away a ton of HP to Johns car. A small field of cars but some good ones racing. The OSCA race cars deciding not to race as they realised they could not foot it against the Transam type cars. Pity as this would have given a better exciting race.
All in all we could not have had a better weekend with the results.
Ruapuna 27th September 2009
Shane had his first outing on Sunday in the Tranzam. Great day weather wise just a bit on the cool side.
Shane qualified as the fastest car and started on pole for the first race. The first corner came the first incident when Shane was clipped by another car and was sent flying into the gravel trap. The race was red flagged until the car was dug out. So much gravel was in the under trays the car was towed to the pits for the crew to clean for the second race, not a great start to the day.
The second race due to Shane’s top Qualifying time he had to start in pit lane as it was a handicap race. I did not think it could be done but with some tight driving skills Shane motored thru some tiny gaps to become the victor and won the race by a good amount.
The third race also a handicap and starting with a 80 second handicap he also won (even though he spun in the race after getting up to 4th and because of the spin back to last) Great result for a good drive, time to buy some new tyres and give him some better grip.
The crew all happy and Shane happy we now wait for the meeting on November the first.
Ruapuna 7th & 8th March 2009
I entered my Camaro in the North versus South New Zealand OSCA championship for this weekend and qualified second on the grid for the first race.
The first race was a bit of an embarrassing moment as I stalled on the grid and nearly had most of the field run into the back of me, but starting the engine up quickly again I was off to a very back of the field start. I had to work my way through the good field of quality cars in which I was thinking would be an impossible task. By the second lap I had completed more than half of the task and was now breathing done the bumpers of the faster cars. The fastest rotor car of Cameron Jones was all the push I needed as before the race he had stated I was going to eat humble pie. Bad thing to say as lap three I was dicing with his yellow rotor and passing under power on a corner I normally thought was not a passing place. Pass accomplished so on to Dawson in his rapid V8 space framed Mazda and was able to slip past under braking at the end of Ruapuna straight. The last lap to come so I could slacken off and cruise to a victory to redeem myself from the bad start.
Race 2 was a reverse start and starting from the rear again was going to be another challenge. Dawson held me up blocking me for 4 laps that slowed his pace and also mine up and let a couple of cars get a very handy lead with the three of us crossing the line in fractions of a second between, myself in the third position. A good result considering.
Race 3 was a handicap race with me at the back by myself 10 seconds behind the other fast cars. It seems like an eternity as the first group leaving some 50 seconds before me and only 6 laps. The race was set at a fast pace and the Morris Lubricants Camaro was up to it but just missing first place but second was still a great result. Thanks to my crew for looking after the car so well.
My team was very happy as we at this stage are the highest point’s leader from the first round. Disappointing to hand over the lead to some one else at the next round as we are unable to find the time to compete at Timaru next week.
Ruapuna January 2009
Well the 3 of us Shane, Ryan and I all raced in the same race at the Lady Wigram meeting at the Powerbuilt Race Track. Probably not really heard of having Father and 2 sons in the same meeting let alone the same race.
Ryan unfortunately had a engine problem so did not feature while Shane drove well but did have a small braking problem with his brakes not being consistent and sometimes he had to pump them up just to stop. The Morris Lubricants Camaro that I was driving had a new engine so I needed to drive a bit more conservative than normal but still managed to come home 2nd in the first race and record the fastest lap in which is now the record for Allcomers at Ruapuna.
The second race I had to start at the rear of the pack as it was a reverse grid. I did not want to do any thing silly so I waited until the gaps opened up and I slowly made my way to the front of the field in which I won. Shane came in I think 5th , which was a great position for his car.
The Third race was a handicap race and I was to start 1.5 minutes behind the front car. which gave him a full lap head start? My car although on old tyres still had the pace to run him and the others down and with the chequred flag in front waving with all the rest behind was a good result, considering the car was being gently treated as we were running it in.
Shane broke the main shaft in his gearbox during the race so did not feature.
All up it was a great weekend of racing although very expensive.
Ruapuna 7th December 2008
Another great day (and weather) at the Ruapuna race track for both Shane and Ryan. Shane ran the Sentra on the Saturday before this meeting and went pretty good but his gearbox made a couple of not so good noises so even though it was still running at a good race pace we decided to replace it for the Sunday meeting. The gearbox we had for a spare was just a standard one with some not so great ratios in it but at least it did not fail. Shane was once again running in the top 6 cars and Ryan qualified on grid 8. The racing was close and fast all day with Ryan posting some of his fastest times of late. The Sentra totally dominating the 2000cc class and even beating Subarus, and turbo race cars. Always seems to shoot well above its rivals.
We are all looking forward to the 3 of us competing at the Wigram meeting in January.
November 2008
I have been
slack at up dating the news but this is what is
happening in the Paul Williams Race Workshop.
The Tranzam is having a brand new 6000cc engine
built and should be ready to hit the track again
around the Christmas time slot. All brand new
parts have arrived for the engine and is
currently being assembled. The OSCA fields in the
South have dwindled so it will be great to add an
extra car to their field.
Ryan&rsquos car has had a mild freshen and
has been performing quite well at the last couple
of meetings.
Shane&rsquos Nissan also has been performing
well above its so called class as it still is
taking on turbo cars and cars that have far more
outright Horse power. At this stage we are all
looking at entering the big Lady Wigram Race
meeting in January which is covered by TV.
Ruapuna 13th April 2008
Another
race meeting at Ruapuna with Shane racing the
Morris Lubricants Sentra and myself taking the
Morris Lubricants Camaro out for a run. The first
race for myself was interesting because lined up
beside me was Chris Hatton in my old Camaro that
he had bought. It would be embarrasing to be
beaten by my old racer. Luckily this did not
happen and after a good scrap and lots of close
racing I came in just in front of him to take
first place.
Shanes race was very interesting as he also came
in first and had a close race with the other
cars. The best race of the day however was Shanes
second race as he had to race in which he had the
smallest engine in the pack and the least HP but
still managed to get third place. This I thought
was remarkable as he was againnst V8 race cars,
turbo race cars etc.
All in all a great result for the day.
Ruapuna 30th March 2008
Well
at last we are back into some more race days and
Ryan and Shane did not disappoint during this
meeting.
The race times were so close it was unbelievable
with Shane just coming in second in the first
race with Ryan third, only less than 100th of a
second separating their fastest lap times. The
racing was great to watch and close.
The next race Shane and Ryan were to be in
different groups so they decided to forfeit their
grid positions and start together so as to carry
on the brother rivalry. This meant that Shane
wold be a non classifier and Ryan instead of
starting on the front grid he had to start at the
rear. Another close race and Ryan coming a
credible second in the race passing all but one
car. Great result.
The Morris Lubricant Cars showing some of the
more powerful cars how to carry corner speed etc.
The next meeting is in a couple of weeks and no
doubt both are fired up to have another good
strong result.
Ruapuna 27th January 2008
Ruapuna
ran a speed day and Shane and Ryan planned to go
and race, unfortunately (for Ryan) Ryan woke up
feeling crook and could not go so as we had some
passengers to take for some hot laps I drove in
Ryan's place. Shane and myself had several
great battles during the day and even swapping
paint, one of the best days racing we have had
for a while as all day it was wheel to wheel
racing no quarter given. The passengers had a
great time and the Morris Lubricant cars put on a
good show.
Ruapuna 5th & 6th
January 2008
We entered the Morris
Lubricants Camaro for the big Lady Wigram Race
meeting at Ruapuna this weekend of 5 th and 6th
Jan.
The large field of mainly V8 race cars of was
going to be a tough event for our car, as the 6
litre engine was in bits and we had to use our
tired 5 litre engine which was down on HP
compared to a large chuck of the other entrants
cars.We qualified in 6th place during the
Saturday season and was sitting beside a rather
powerful 6000cc Mustang on the grid for the first
race.
We had a reasonably good start in the race and
arrived at the first corner with the front
running cars all in a tight bunch.By the end of
this corner we had gained a couple of positions
and the race was well and truly on as a couple of
other cars had made contact during the exciting
start.I drove the pants of the Camaro and was
soon in second place with only the Bed Rumors
Mustang in front.
Giving away about 140 Hp to this powerful race
machine it was soon obvious that passing would be
hard as he would pull 3 or 4 car lengths each
straight in which I had to pick on at the next
corner. It encouraged good racing and I kept him
honest as I pulled the front of my car beside him
entering a few of the corners but just lacked the
HP to drag me out of the corner in front.
Still second is better than what we were
expecting for this race.
The second race was on Sunday and it was a
handicap type race where the faster cars started
several seconds behind the section of the slower
race cars.During this race while mowing the field
down I made a mistake and passed a car under a
yellow flag (I thought that the flag was out for
this car as he had slowed to let me pass as he
new a much faster car was approaching) I did not
realize until I arrived at the next corner to
find out on the grass was a car that had just had
an off and this was actually what the yellow flag
was for.I had to serve a drive through penalty
which cost me any type of a good result, as 12th
was not what I wanted but still we put on a very
competitive drive and recorded the fastest lap
during this race.
The third race on Sunday was also a handicap race
and I started at a 55 second wait on the grid
until the front bunch of cars had started. We were
going great guns and was getting up near the
front of the field when all of a sudden a slowing
car was rounded up at a slower corner and the
cars infront of me had to brake to change lanes
which caused me to have to spin to avoid them.If
this had not happened it looked very likely a
podium finish if not a first place.Still we
showed that we were very competitive and are
looking forward to our next outing.
Ruapuna 9th September 2007
Today was the first Club day
of the season and I decided the Tranzam needed a
shake down ready for the big meeting in
November, just to check for any oil leaks etc.
The car being far better than any of the rest of
the field I had a good play in the first race and
won very easily and even did a couple of laps
without having to change gear.
The second race Shane was looking like he needed
a rush so I let him behind the wheel (he had
never driven this Car before). He started from
the rear of the field and soon got to grips with
the power, brakes and handling coming in a easy
first. Still shaking with adrenaline I let him
also race in the third race. Again a easy win but
the important part of the race was Shane drove
the Camaro some 7 seconds faster than he had ever
been around the track.
A good shake down with the car in the 1.25 sec
bracket so ready for the big one.
News July 2007
Shane ran the Nissan on
Saturday 14th Twilight speed meeting at Ruapuna,
this was the debut with the new engine. No
problems and a great result with third placing
overall for the meeting. This includes the larger
capacity cars, 4wd evos etc so a great start for
the season.
News June 2007
Shane has just about
finished his new SR20 engine for next season.
Built to the highest standards with wisco
pistons, special crank and a very comprehensive
head job he hopes to have it running mid July for
the first round of the seasons speed event at
Ruapuna. Still not going the turbo way as it
keeps him in the 2000cc class, even though he
consistently out races the larger capacity cars,
he has gone for a reliable naturatually aspirated
engine.
Ryan's gearbox is being removed for a check and
to find what has happened to his missing reverse.
The Honda having no up grades this season.
Ruapuna April 29th 2007
On the
29 April was the final Club Championship race
meeting of the season and Ryan had to win to keep
the junior championship alive. The qualifying was
a shocker as we had a oil leak around the sump
gasket on the Honda race car. This only enabled
Ryan to do 2 laps and he had to come in for a
quick fix. This proved to be a no go as the leak
was up under the exhaust system and hard to get
at.Armed with a tube of RTV I did the best as
could be done in the time given but still the
leak was there in the first race and again Ryan
had to come in for another attempt to
repair.Again in the second race the problem was
still leaking so we had to abandon the car for
this meeting. Luckily Ryan was able to use
Shanes Nissan for his Champion Ship race as it
had a 2000cc engine so was smaller in capacity
which let him compete in the race. With official
clearance he lined up on the grid. There was only
4 juniors in this race with the adult racers and
Ryan needed a first place with 1 car between him
self and the only other person that could take
the Championship away from him. Ryan had only
driven the Nissan at 1 previous meeting so the
car was very different to drive than his Honda
even though they are pretty much on even terms
for times. As it turned out Ryan won
with 2 junior cars between himself and Clara Bond
who was the only other person in contention. Ryan has won the
Junior Champs on the track in a strange car to
himself which was the best we could hope for. Another eventually
great days racing.
March 25th 07 Speed event
Ruapuna
Both Shane and Ryan competed
together and had some (lots) of close racing
between themselves with the best result possible
with Ryan winning 3 of the duels and Shane the
other 3 Both boys very happy. For the overall
results for the day Shane being placed 8th and
Ryan 9th overall which is excellent results as
some very fast cars were racing.
March 18th 07 race meeting
at Ruapuna
Both
Shane and Ryan competed at this meeting with
excellent results. The day was a wee bit wet and
Shane was off to a bad start in his first race as
he had put a new set of tyres on and during the
warm up lap he found the RF tyre rubbing on the
suspension so had to come into the pits and
replace the wheel with another which meant he had
to start this race from pit lane. This must have
given him a good kick as he during this race
posted the fastest time which even though the
Nissan is 2000cc this then put him in the open
class for the next race. All the cars in this
class are turbo 6 cyl or V8 cars. Shane had to
start at the back of the grid but as luck for him
it started to rain just a wee bit and although he
was on slicks this evened out the horse power
difference. Shane came in a credible second.
The second race of the day for Shane in the same
group also an other second place, so Shane when
home happy with the car in one piece and still
going.
Ryan also had a good days racing in the Honda and
ended up on the podium with a second place.
A great days racing and both cars unmarked and
still going.
Ruapuna 10th September 2006
Both
Shane and Ryan competed the Speed day of racing
at Ruapuna 10/9/06. A total of 48 competitors
turned up for the days racing in a fine sunny
day. Shanes first outing in his new Attezza on a
dry track. He did not disappoint as he took the
days overall honours buy some 6 seconds, while
Ryan was a credible 15th overall and he was
carrying a passenger. This is a good way to start
the season. The quality of cars has certainly
stepped up this season.
Timaru 3rd, 4th, 5th March
2006

Our first meeting of the
Tranzam season for us was at Timaru the weekend
of 3rd, 4th & 5th March. We arrived at the
Levels race track for testing on the Friday and
found we had a massive oil leak around the sump
gasket near the front. This put pay to us having
any good practice as Brent and Carl had to remove
the sump and do the best job we could of stopping
the leak. Friday Night we had to go to the poster
signing and meet the drivers of the Tranzams
event that the Timaru Club had organized. For
over an hour every driver was busy signing
posters for the very large turn out of fans.
(Well done Timaru).
Saturday we had no time to test the car and had
to go straight into qualifying, resulting in 5th
fastest time of the 11 Tranzams that turned up.
The crowd commenting re the V8 thunder of the
high revving engines. (The best noise heard at
Levels in a bunch for many a year). We still
unfortunately had the dreaded oil leak which
hampered our lap times as I could only do about 4
laps and had to come in as oil was getting on my
rear tyres. After a hastily temp repair (the
front of the motor would have to come off to
repair the leak properly) we had to go into the
first race knowing that we would still have the
oil problem. We started in grid 5 which we though
was better than we expected as we were down on
power compared to basically all the other
Tranzams. The race started and by the second
corner we were into 3rd position although I
surrended that as I was being squeezed out and
although I had the right of way it was evident
that a collision was going to happen if I had
held my ground. With finances limited I conceded
to 4th position and diced the whole race for 3rd
but very happy to end up 4th in a very tight
race.
Sundays race we started on grid 4 and straight
away raced into 3rd spot until the last lap in
which I was punted off the track in a unsporting
way. (Tagged on the very rear of the car half way
around the hairpin.) This created a spectacular
spin and I was very lucky not to have hit the
tyre wall at a horrendous speed.
The next race we had to start from the back of
the field but straight away the engine developed
a miss so I had to call it a day.
Over all we had a very competitive weekend as
when we were going we were well up at the front.

Ruapuna 6th Nov 2005

Shane and Ryan both raced their cars at Ruapuna
today and kept up the feud of pushing each other
to be the fastest. Ryan qualified the fastest of
the two being on grid 6 . Very respectable as he
was against some V8s and turbo cars. Shane
qualified near the front of the group of cars
that were in his class bracket. Both drove their
hearts out all day and it proved to be a
successful race day. Shane getting 2 first
placings during the day, but Ryan still getting a
slightly quicker lap time.
Ruapuna 16th Oct 2005
The first race meeting of
the season for Shane and Ryan at Ruapuna with
both boys competing against each other as well as
the rest of the field. Canty car club had a good
field of cars turn up for this first club day of
the season and with Shanes first outing at a race
day with the now rebuilt Nissan the competion
between my boys was paramount and boths target
was not racing the rest on the track but to out
do each other. Ryan has not got the new motor
that I have had built for it yet but still
managed to head off Shane in the first race,
although Shane had the wisker of a slightly
faster lap time. The second race was the other
way round as Shane just out paced Ryan and came
home just in front. The third race Shanes Nissan
was suspect in a couple of problems we had
discovered in this last race so we decided it
would be best to rectify before racing again so
Ryan started this one on the front row in the
handy cap race. The field was the fastest group
of the day and even included a Mustang Tranzam.
Ryan went very well and lead until the last lap
until being passed and even had body contact from
a Mazda doing a stupid passing move. Overall a
very good race meeting.
Manfield 1st & 2nd April
2005
The
end of the season race meeting for the OSCA GT1
races was held at Manfield the weekend of 1+2
April. We travelled starting at 11.30 on Thursday
night traveling to the Picton ferry terminal and
then across the ditch to Wellington then towing
the Transam Camaro to the Manfield track.
Arriving at 2pm we then unloaded and did a few
practice laps in the Morris Lubricants Camaro.
Nigel driving the car felt a vibration coming
from the diff so we set about removing the diff
to check it out, we found that the crown wheel
bolts had worked loose and after lock tight and
lock wiring the bolts refitting the diff back in
we were ready for qualifying on Saturday. By this
time we were all very tired and slept soundly
that night. Saturday we qualified fastest and
waited for the first race. We won this quite
comfortably with Nigel able to ease the pace
after the first lap. The second race we had to
start in a reverse grid format and again with
some good driving Nigel brought the car home in
first place. The last race on Sunday was a full
handicap race and we started at the rear of the
field with a 64 second handicap, this made the
Camaro work but again another first placing.
Wining all of our races up North wrapped up a
great season as not only did we win the
North/South Challenge we also won buy a handsome
margin in the OSCA GT1 Championship.
Timaru 19th March 2005
We
arrived at Levels race track to compete in the
OSCA races at the level 2 Truck race meeting.
OSCA had the largest field of race cars being 20.
Four top Tranzams thrilled the spectators with
some very close racing. My Tranzam driven by
Nigel recorded the quickest lap time of any race
machine at the meeting. The Morris Lubricant
Camaro did not disgrace its self again as being
very competive and being in the top 4 place
getters every race, even in the handicap races
starting 60 seconds behind the field and still
coming 4th and only inches from 3rd. A good
result with no damage and the car again not
broken.
Ruapuna 22nd & 23rd
January 2005
Well
we had a good weekend of racing at Ruapuna ( Jan
22nd +23rd ). Nigel qualified in 5th position to
start the first race on Saturday, he got away in
this race to have second place in the bag but
while in the middle of a passing move for first
place a part of the rear wing failed and he lost
down force on the rear of the car and he spun.
This was at the end of the main straight so was
very spectacular. He recovered to come in at 5th
place so we were all still rapt. Nigel recorded
the fastest lap time of any body during the race
and as he was the only other person to challenge
the front place I put this down as a good race.
We fixed the wing ready for Sunday in which we
had two handicap races. A large field of cars
lined up for the first race for the day with
Nigel at the back. This race was like a
demolition derby as the faster cars raced through
the field. We did better than I could hope for as
the Morris Lubricants Camaro came in 2nd, a very
exciting race which was by far the best race of
the weekend so far by any of the classes being
raced this weekend.
The officials were correct in a decision to put
one of the drivers on his trailer and told him to
go home as by not being a competent enough driver
as he caused a lot of damage to a lot of cars
during the race. My car driven by Nigel didnt
even get marked as Nigel drove around the biff
and barge.
The third race of the day was the best I have
seen for a while as the handicap race had us
starting with 4 of the Transam cars nearly 1 lap
behind the front of the field with only 6 Laps to
work with. An excellent 5th place was recorded
and being the front Transam car was a good
result. We ended up being the fastest race car in
all grades racing at this meeting including the
single seater toyota class.
Levels 7-8th January 2005
The
racing at Levels Raceway was a very challanging
race meeting over the 7- 8 Jan. The weather was
some times dry enough to race in and then the
heavens would open up and the conditions were
dangerous for the likes of my Tranzam being
driven by Nigel. Qualifying was not good as the
rain came down and as I had told Nigel to go and
do a 1min 20sec lap he did this but this only put
him in grid 13 for the first race. Nigel drove
superb in this race and came a credible 3rd as a
couple of the other Transams started at the front
of the grid and got a flyer of a start. The
second race the heavens opened up and all of the
Tranzams decided to not compete in this race due
to safety reasons apart from B Gillon in the
Powerbuilt Tranzam, while all of us could compete
in the next race and also the meeting in 2 weeks
due to a big crash all by himself due to the
weather several thousand dollars will be needed
to repair the sustantually damaged Tranzam. The
3rd race the weather had dried up enough to
enable the remaining cars to have a good race.
Nigel had to start at the back of the field with
Eddy Fairburn on a 60 second handy cap which
proved too great of a handy cap as even though
Nigel recorded the fastest time he only could
manage 5th place. This was an exceptional placing
considering the handy cap. The Morris Lubricant
Camaro all in all had a pleasing out come for the
weekend as Nigel extending his points in the
championship. At the moment first in the
championship points is great but in racing any
thing can happen and the next round at Ruapuna
will be an exciting round with Richard Freeman
snapping at Nigels heels for the championship.
Ruapuna 13th November 2004
Speed
meeting. We raced the Morris Lubricants Honda in
the club speed events, Shane, Ryan and myself all
shared the driving .The racing was divided into 3
different circuits with compeditors racing
against the clock in the first 2 circuits and
paired up against 1other compeditor and the clock
in the 3rd circuit.Apart from a gearbox reverse
selector problem the car performed excellent
especially as it had to race 3 times as much as
the others. Shane did the best and he was the 4th
position overall by the end of the day, this was
in spite of other serious cars with more
horsepower racing. The car handled good and Shanes
driving proved what was needed. It looks like I
might have to do some extra pactice to stay in
contact with Shanes pace.Ryan drove a good race
by beating other racers that had faster cars and
far more experienced drivers. Ryan by far being
the youngest racer. All in all a great days
racing.
Ruapuna 7th November 2004
This
weekend we were racing back at Ruapuna at a club
day. Both Shane and Ryan were to share the
Honda.Ryan had the best results by setting the
fastest time in his qualifying group and also by
winning race number 1. Could not ask for more
could I but better came and he also won his
second race as well, not bad for a kid that is to
young to be able to drive on the road and is
competing against adults.Shane had to race the
car in the bigger class and he also did well by
coming in with two 4th and one 3rd placing, he
was racing against other race cars that had mutch
greater horspower . I class this weekends racing
very satisfing.
Levels 31st October 2004
The
weekend of 31 OCT the racing was at the Levels
track at Timaru. This was the first time that
Nigel was to drive my Tranzam at this circuit. We
arrived on the Saturday to do some testing and
some very good times were recorded,we were now
ready for Sunday. Sunday came and Nigel weht out
to qualify,he recorded the second fastest lap
time out of the field so we were
happy.Unfortunitly during this seasion the brake
master cylinder seal failed and we had brake
problems and after removing the cylinder we were
unable to find a new seal to enable us to
continue to race the rest of the day with the
Tranzam. My self although had been asked to drive
a Ford Super 6 at the meeting, this car being
owned by Barry Lee.This is a class that is very
controlled and is made up of Ford and Commodors
with 6 cylinder engines only.My day didnt start
very good as the car kept flying its power
steering belt off, and had a major brake problem
in the master cylinder. We solved these problems
and then discovered a clutch problem also, the
clutch sometimes would stick and leave me with no
drive. This problem stayed with me all day as it
could not be sorted at the track. The car although
showed potential as the second race we started on
grid 4 and led from the 3rd corner to the very
last lap in which the clutch sticked longer than
it normally did and during a gear change down the
back straight I was passed when I had no drive.
Overal not a good weekend of racing for the team.
Ruapuna 3rd October 2004
The
first meeting of the season for the Tranzam OSCA
GT1 was at Runapuna 3/10/04 Nigel Sheppard is
driving my car this season. His first drive in a
competive race meeting in this type of race car
had myself behind the pit wall trying to decide
who was the most nervous.Nigel set the second
fastest time during qualifing that surprised a
lot of the other competors as now they realised
that our team was not there just to fill the
fields. The first race was a cracker with 4
Tranzams dicing for position in a 17 car grid
line up of OSCA cars, the races only down side
was Austin McKinley blowing his motor to bits
(should of been using MORRIS LUBRICANTS helps
prevent this type of engine failure). The second
race was the best race of any at the whole
meeting as the top three Tranzams diced for the
top position. There was not much space between
these three but in the end Nigel came in to
record his first win in Tranzams. The third race
was also a handy cap race and again the Tranzams
started at the rear of the field with a 20 second
handy cap,the three top cars again showed their
dominance with them slicing through the field,
after comming up tp pass the powerbuilt sponsored
Toyota Nigel and the other Tranzam of Dennis
Running showed their class by Nigel around the
out side and Dennis up the inside of the Toyota
but due to some unsportsman behaviour from the
Toyota both Tranzams had to take evasive action
and they both spun off the track. The Toyota
driver was shown the unsportsmanship flag in the
second race but some drivers just dont learn!
Both cars restarted and still finnished in
respectable positions.The crew were most
impressed with Nigels driving as was myself, the
car came home in one piece and had been very
competitive a very sucessful weekend.
Timaru 1st Aug 2004
Shane
Williams' debut of the teams new Nissan Sentra
didn't quite produce the result one would expect
from a NZ championship winning car:

BUGGER !

Ruapuna 2 May 2004
We ran
both cars at this meeting with Nigel Shepherd
making his debut driving my camaro. As
expected Nigel cleaned up three races out of
three and enjoyed his first outing. We debut our
honda race car at this club day with both Ryan
and Shane sharing the drives. Ryan driving
in the class in which the car was designed to
compete in and Shane had to compete in with the
big boys. Ryan got a crediable third in his first
ever race in this car in the first race.
The second race he improved his position by
coming in second. This race was very close
and exciting and the driver who won the race in a
very quick toyota starlet came and congratulated
Ryan for giving him such a strong race. in
the last race of Ryans, Ryan drove supurbly and
could not get a better result as first is as good
as you can get. He had considerable
pressure for the whole six laps from a V8 holden
commodore and a RX7 mazda for the entire
race. Without faultering Ryan held the
right lines and won. Shane drove well
and enjoyed his day racing and had an incrediable
day coming in even a fourth against the big boys.
Timaru
20 June 2004 ... We were fortunate to be
invited by the Timaru motor race club to compete
at their club day. Both Ryan and Shane
drove the Honda in a shared drive. Again
Ryan drove with his class of cars and Shane had
to go up a grade so they could share the
car. Neither Shane or Ryan had ever driven
at Levels racetrack before. The first
couple of races was more of a familisation of the
track. The exhaust manifold cracked during
the first race which we could not fix properly
for the meeting, even so the car went really
well. Ryan won his third race and was put
under all sorts of pressure during it, and was
quite worn out after receiving the chequred
flag. Shane had a wonderful day being
placed third and a fourth and showing that the
car has got excellent potential.

Paul and
most of the crew ran in the road car 50 lap race
with some of the hits derby style with extra
speed thrown in. We all had a lot of fun
and that is what it is all about. Roger
Nees, Paul Buttolph, Anthony Williams and Dave
Walsh survived for the full 50 laps but Pam Nees
and Paul Williams had obstacle problems. Dave is not part of
the crew during race nights but is the motor man
of the crew. He builds the motors for both
the Camaro and Corvette.
Paul rolled 2 cars in one
huge hit down the front straight.
This resulted in him being 'assisted' from the
track ...
