| ABOUT TEAM WILLIAMS
RACING

Hi and welcome to our racing
life. Our racing involves all our family
and lots of good friends. Our family
consists of Paul and Sue Williams and children
Shane, Tracey, and the youngest Ryan.
September 2009:
The 2009/2010 season will see big changes for Team Williams Racing. Shane will be making the step up from racing the Nissan to taking over the driving duties in the Camaro. This would be an enviable task for most onlookers but I'm sure Shane will be relishing the opportunity and will no doubt also be very successful.
His first race in the Camaro will be on the 27th September which will be used as a lead-up to the Ron Silvester Memorial meeting in November. The top north island cars are expected to compete at this event which is also to be televised nationwide.
2005: Ryan
& Shane are both now racing in the South
Island driving their seal track race cars. Ryans
being a Honda Accord and Shanes being a Nissan
Sentra. Ryan has competed with the adults in his
motor-racing debut and been found to be very
competitive and amazed several of the older
competitors. Shane has found to be very forceful
in his driving style resulting in good success
along with a rebuild to the Nissan. Paul has sat
back to concentrate on his families racing and
let Nigel Sheppard take over the driving duties
in the Morris Lubricants Trans-Am Camaro. Nigel
has just completed the OSCA GT1 Championship and
finished 1st overall which is very encouraging
for his first season in the car. We now begin the
off-season rebuild and look forward to running in
the new NZ Trans-Am Championship format due to
start in Oct 05.
2001: We have just got Ryan
involved in Go Kart racing at Carrs Road in
Christchurch. He is driving a KT100 in the
junior restricted class. The main idea is
having fun and him enjoying his racing and later
on, if he likes his motor sport we will be the
most helpful parents in helping him further up
the ladder in his activities.
Well
back to Paul. I drive a corvette super
saloon at Woodford Glen Speedway and I also have
a factory american sealed track race car in my
shed at home. The two cars are like chalk
and cheese to drive. The Camaro being, I
feel, the most challenging. I won the Open
Saloon Car Associations (OSCA) Overall
Championship last season with the car and even
dealt to some of the full blown TRANZAM cars
which upset some of the drivers to the extent
that they have had the rules changed, so, that to
compete in the championships again this season I
have to slow down to be able to compete.
The OSCA officials altered the rules so no car
will be able to lap under 1 minute 27 seconds
around Ruapuna and be eligible to compete for the
championship. Well that counts me out for now,
even though my car is the same specifications as
most of the other OSCA cars. Oh Well, just
sour grapes.
This season I will mainly just concentrate on my
dirt track car. I have been fortunate to
have an excellent crew to help us. Brent
Summerfield. Roger Nees, Paul Buttolph and my
brother Anthony Williams. We have got a
fair amount of sorting out to do but even while
we are doing that we feel that we will be very
competitive.
My
lovely wife, Sue, is very supportive and looks
after the appetite and refreshments of the crew,
as they need to keep their energy up. Sue's
nick name is "cup of Tea" Sue, as she
always has the jug on. She never misses any
of my races and is known to get very worked up
while watching sometimes.
